Treatments

diagnosis

Diagnosis is necessary to create a definitive treatment plan. At the end of treatment a patient should be dentally fit and then enter a maintenance phase supervised by the hygienist. Complex treatment plans will have the same end product but will potentially entail an integrated approach utilising more than one dental specialist and the hygienists.

radiographs

Quay Health recommends that small radiographs should be used only where necessary, frequency being related to active treatment needs. Panorals (scanning radiographs) should be taken every 4-5 years unless assessing for bone loss on patients with gum disease or monitoring implant patients. Lateral skull radiographs are taken for orthodontic patients at the out set of treatment.

preventative periodontal (dental hygiene) care

All at Quay Health unanimously believes that the success of patient care directly relates to the quality of its Hygiene Programme. Our Hygienists are both skilled and motivated enough to provide high quality maintenance and active treatments to stop active gum disease.

preventative and non invasive restorative treatment

It is possible to stop and reverse the effects of active decay in teeth without using a drill or the need for dental injections. This is done by using a combination of fissure sealants, air abrasion and Healozone. For more information see related topics

fillings

The Practice does not support the use of mercury based filling materials and prefers where possible to use light cured white composites. The technology behind cosmetic white fillings is extensive and incredible. The white filling is linked to the tooth surface by a bonding technique thus increasing function. We would also like to observe that a filling that is not placed in the correct occlusion (bite) can have a detrimental effect on the Temporomandibular (jaw) joint and effect skeletal balance. A filling should never feel “lumpy” or high.

root canal treatment (Endodontics)

It is necessary to understand the importance of microbial control, clean the entire canal system and shape the canals to allow accurate restoration. The Clinics utilise rotary endodontics with NiTi systems and ultrasonic tips and files. We are observing the Government guide lines of not reusing any endodontic files or reamers.

oral surgery and extractions

Quay Health can provide a complete range of oral surgery with special emphasis to the extraction of wisdom teeth and apicetomies. We also provide a surgical approach to the reduction of bleeding periodontal pockets that do not respond to conventional hygiene approaches.

inlays, crowns and bridges

To provide the best quality inlays, crown and bridge restorations is team work. Preparation is everything, commencing with hygiene care to ensure excellent gum condition. The dentist will ensure accurate preparation and impressions to allow the dental laboratory (Custom Dental) to make a quality product. We have direct links to the lab to ensure accurate colour matching. They are equally amenable to come to any of the surgeries to assist in case management. It is important to ensure the occlusion, aesthetics and fit is perfect. Anything less is unacceptable.

dentures

To provide high quality denture work requires team work between the patient, dentist and laboratory. Denture wearing can be a difficult experience for some patients and we pledge that we will afford those patients time, care and understanding to achieve our treatment goals. Where patients have poor retention for denture wearing we recommend the use of implant technology. Please see Implants If a patient requires a partial denture we will recommend Valplast, a new vinyl system that is temperature sensitive with the clasps integral to the system, a vast improvement on acrylic.

implants

Chances are, whether you've lost one tooth or several, whether it's a new situation or something you've lived with for years, you've never become fully accustomed to losing such a vital part of yourself.

orthopedics (non extraction orthodontics)

Orthopedics simply put is changing the size, shape, and relationship of the bones of the face and jaws to create symmetry. The balance achieved is supported through the head and spine with Osteopathic care. This skeletal balance ensures the teeth remain in a stable position.
